Who are some European Explorers who traveled to China during the Song Dynasty?
Q. I have a creative writing assignment where I have to pretend I am one of the explorers who traveled to China during the Song dynasty (1300s), problem is, I can't find any other explorers besides Marco Polo that went there. Does anyone know of any "less famous" explorers who went to China during that time?

A. There isn't much written about other explorers to China during this period, and had it not been for a cell mate with Polo in a Genoan prison (Genoa and Venice were battling over who controlled the trade routes to China), Marco Polo himself may have become a footnote in history. The cell mate wrote of Polo's travels. There were friars who had been to China before and during this time. Could you take on the identity of a friar? Remember, not many people had an education at the time, and friars often carried on the education of the few who could afford it.Some friars traveled, taking on the responsibility of converting the pagans to Christianity. A. Since they both existed during the same time, the probably are the same. Wikipedia redirects Sung Dynasty to Song Dynasty, so I suggest you just use Song Dynasty, but that's really up to you.

how did mongol and chinese woman compare in roles during mongol conquest and the song dynasty?
Q. i can think of like 20 things to contrast them but not a single thing to compare than other than the super obvious. Like mongol woman had jobs tending to animals while chinese woman did all their business at home and taught their daughters how to become good wives.

A. During the Mongolian Empire, or the Yuan Dynasty of China, the mongols were the ruling class. The society was divided into 4 levels, with Mongols on the top, followed by the other northern nomads, then Northen Chinese since that's the part of China that fell to Mongolian rule first, and finally Southern Chinese on the bottom. Mongol men had the right to walk into the house of average Chinese and sleep whichever woman they liked. They had the right to kill any Chinese, only to repay with a cow. Seriously, you can find this in history books. No wonder the Chinese peasents soon overthrew the Mongolian Empire and made Mongolia Chinese territory.
